Fitness Director, Saw Mill Club We are excited to have Melissa embark on this path toward exercise success. However, we have had a bumpy start with regards to her ability to manage and keep her schedule consistent. The Dream Team is enthusiastic for Melissa because everyone sees the potential for her to get fantastic results, but she needs to allow us to take care of her program in order for this to happen. We will need more of an effort going forward from Melissa, but I will say that the last week has shown improvements in her ability to show consistency. She definitely wants this to be successful, and she will be successful, we just need to get her a regular routine that becomes automatic. I have faith that this will all come in line during the upcoming weeks
Personal Trainer, Saw Mill Club Our first few sessions were a good indicator that Melissa’s energy, although high, could not overpower her lack of cardiovascular and muscular endurance. She pushed through her first few weeks and quickly gained endurance, laying the foundation for the fast paced strength training workouts that would follow. The workouts included functional and traditional exercises plus plenty of core training, as her core is another one of her weaknesses. The biggest challenge that I have encountered with Melissa is not necessarily in the gym, but in her time management skills. She is getting better at making her appointments on time and trying to squeeze in her cardio more regularly.
Certified Life Coach, Saw Mill Club When Melissa won this contest, I’m not sure she realized what she was in for. It started out with a photo shoot followed by eager professionals ready to get their hands on her. The frenzy immediately pointed out to us all that Melissa needed some time management skills. Melissa is a mother and an interior designer, so her schedule was already full and she has many demands on her time. As her life coach, I’ll be helping her overcome any obstacles that come up, I’ll keep her accountable and I’ll be there to keep her motivated and focused. Melissa and I spent our first few sessions talking about who she is and where she wants to go. Next, we immediately jumped into putting some clear boundaries around her time. Melissa, in the past, has struggled with being on time for appointments or wants to change them. Melissa’s first step has been to use an appointment book and write down all her appointments and then commit to them. Melissa put her nose to the grindstone and was proud to announce that her punctuality is improving. Melissa is finding all the changes we are throwing at her challenging. However, she has been very willing to take the necessary small steps towards her goals. Keep it up, Melissa!
Nutrition Therapist and Personal Trainer, Saw Mill Club Melissa is a fun-loving Texas gal with loads of energy. She is the center of a whirlwind of activity from kids, husband, her own interior design firm, and now this very public challenge to lose weight and get fit and fabulous with the help of a slew of professionals. All these demands sometimes take their toll and Melissa is a classic emotional eater who “knows what she should do” to lose weight but hasn’t been able to consistently do it. Add to that her preference for some of the Southern treats of her childhood—icy cold sodas or lemonade loaded with sugar—and you can see how the pounds piled on. At our first two nutrition sessions, Melissa insisted that she knew how to take off the weight, so I agreed to let her do it her way with some minor suggestions about how to fuel properly for her current high exercise level. By the third session, after a 2-pound weight gain (can that all be new muscle?), Melissa agreed that she needed more structure. Together we came up with a food plan to reduce the simple sugars and refined carbohydrates that Melissa has trouble controlling. I explained to her that putting these quickly digested foods into her empty belly in the morning was a recipe for weight gain due to the surge of insulin that signals the body to store the flood of blood sugar as fat. This new, more structured program is a bit more “diet-y” than I am comfortable with for long-term weight control, but it will kick-start Melissa’s weight loss program and reset her sweet tooth. At that point, she’ll be able to start reintroducing more healthy carbohydrates in the form of whole grains and fresh fruits.
Advanced Dentistry of Westchester Melissa came to the office to begin the process of our makeover. In the interim, she spoke to many of her friends and family and came with a number of questions about our plans: How long will these veneers last? (Answer: for many, many years—perhaps indefinitely); What is the maintenance of the veneers? (Answer: brush and floss); Are there restrictions on what she can eat with the veneers? (Answer: none within reason); and, Will any of this hurt? (Never! We don’t do pain!). We then took additional impressions in order to create the wax-up of the planned makeover and photos that will be imaged to show the makeover. She will get the chance to see the imaged photos this week for her approval or any changes she would like. Models were taken to create the trays to begin the home bleaching process, which will also begin this week. We are right on track to accomplish a beautiful makeover for Melissa.
and the SkinCentre Advanced Medical Aesthetics team We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Melissa in person and evaluating her cosmetic concerns. These include facial blemishes and acne as well as unwanted facial hair for which we have begun treatment. Melissa has received two treatments to date with the Acne Laser performed by Joseph Sozio, M.D., personally. She has also received her first laser hair removal session with one of the SkinCentre team’s licensed aestheticians and R.N.s. For best results, alternating appointments for each laser will continue over several sessions at carefully timed intervals. Melissa has had virtually no downtime with this regimen and is seeing significant improvement even after just a few treatments. Melissa has a great attitude and seeing success in a short period has already boosted her confidence. She is very excited to see the final outcome!
Hair Salon Derrek worked on Melissa’s color and Cathy Young worked on her keratin treatment. Our stylist, Cecilia, will be doing the cutting. Melissa’s color was oxidized and brassy, which was making her look washed out. We deepened her foundation color with a rich, golden brown. We also softened and added dimension with subtle highlights. As we approach the photo shoot, we plan on being a little more dramatic as we will be heading toward fall, and Melissa looks wonderful in fall colors. Since we met Melissa, we gave her a keratin complex therapy treatment, which will remove any frizz and add shine. Melissa’s hair is in fairly good condition so we felt the keratin treatment was best for her and her busy lifestyle. As far as her style, we determined her layers need to be a bit longer, so we are waiting a few more weeks to cut. At her next appointment, we will start to shape her layers and give her a more youthful style to go with her increasingly fit body.
